EXCLUSIVE – Bonesetter’s Daughter: The Making of an Opera
As the producer of The Bonesetter’s Daughter: The Making of an Opera, CAAM offers select corporate partners this exclusive opportunity to underwrite the public television debut of this exciting program and its supplementary educational initiatives. The Making of an Opera documents the birth of a new opera that bridges the operatic traditions of China and the West and brings together some of today’s leading creative spirits. We follow bestselling author Amy Tan (The Joy Luck Club), composer Stewart Wallace (Harvey Milk), and director Chen Shi-Zheng (The Peony Pavilion) as they bring to life an opera based on Tan’s most personal novel, The Bonesetter’s Daughter, a moving epic about one family’s history told through three generations of mothers and daughters. The documentary will premiere on public television in the San Francisco Bay Area in October 2008, with the national public television broadcast slated for May 2009, with an anticipated viewership of 4.5 million.
Please see the Sponsorship Overview for full benefit and demographic details.

ONGOING – Opportunities
Corporate Screenings
CAAM offers sneak-preview opportunities with our Asian Pacific American Heritage Month films to community, academic, governmental and corporate groups nationwide. Employee Screenings help corporate diversity departments with their goals and also help stations expand viewers’ awareness of their programming. Planning a film event is a wonderful way to energize your employee group membership, raise awareness of Asian American issues and increase your organization’s visibility in your community. And most importantly, it’s fun!
Charitable Matching Gift Program
A simple way corporations can increase the impact of employee-initiated philanthropy is through the creation of a charitable matching gift program. Confer with your corporate human resource or payroll department, and make sure to include the Center for Asian American Media on your list of eligible charities.
